Tongue River Girls Basketball Team Wins 2A State Championship: Dayton, Wyoming is once again girls basketball title town.
On Saturday night, The Tongue River Lady Eagles defeated Lingle-Ft. Laramie 46-43 to claim their first 2A State Championship in 10 years.
The Lady Eagles were down 4 at halftime, but things got going in the second half.
The girls had an 8 point lead late in the game, and then Lingle-Ft. Laramie made a late comeback, but TR was able to hang on.
Coach Amanda Cummins says focus and discipline was what won the game, as well as sticking to the game plan no matter what happened.
In the championship game, Chaney Reish had a double-double for Tongue River…12 points and 16 rebounds.
Jazlyn Ryan scored 1 dozen points and Afton Cummins added 10 to the cause.
TR finishes the season with a record of 24-3

Tongue River HS Boys Basketball: The season for the Tongue River boys did not end the way they wanted.
On Friday, the Eagles lost in the semi-finals against eventual 2A State Champ Wyoming Indian 55-41, and then lost on Saturday in the 3rd place game vs. Wright 68-51, to finish the season with a record of 21-6.
Sheridan HS Girls Basketball Team Heading To State Tournament: For the 2nd year in a row the Sheridan girls basketball team is heading to the 4A State Tournament.
Back on Saturday, the Lady Broncs lost in the regional championship game vs. Campbell County 50-46, but their spot in the state tournament was already secured.
Sheridan will play the first game of the day this coming Thursday at 9am at Casper College against Rock Springs.
Sheridan HS Boys Basketball Season Ends: The season ended a little early for the Sheridan boys as they lost back on Friday in the regional semi-finals against Laramie 80–75, and then lost again Saturday vs. Cheyenne East 66-63, to finish the season with a record of 16-8.
Sheridan HS Boys Indoor Track and Field Win State Championship; Girls Place 4th: For the 5th time in 6 years, the Sheridan Boys are 4A State Champs!
The 4 by 200 meter relay team placed first in their event, and the Broncs placed 2nd in 5 other competitions.
For the girls, Ruby Jacobs won the 55 meter hurdles race to help Sheridan place 4th.
The track athletes have a quick turn-around, because practice for the outdoor track and field season, as well as soccer starts today.
Sheridan Hawks Hockey Team Misses Playoffs: The Sheridan Hawks took no prisoners this past weekend against winless Cody.
Friday’s score was 8-zip and Saturday’s score was 10-zip.
The bad news is, the Hawks did not get enough of the help that they needed to make the playoffs and their season is over.
Sheridan finished in 6th place in their division, and were 4 points back of Great Falls, who finished in 4th place in the standings, and 4th place or better is where teams needed to be, in order to make the playoffs.
University Of Wyoming Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys lost round 2 of the Border War back on Saturday at Colorado State 70-62.
Cam Manyawu came off the bench to lead the Pokes with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Mason Walters scored 12, Brendan Wenzel added in 11, and Sam Griffin contributed with 10.
UW is now 13-16 on the season and have a 6-10 record in the Mountain West Conference.
The Brown and Gold will play in their home finale tomorrow against Air Force.
The Wyoming Cowgirls won their last home game of the season back on Saturday, as they defeated Fresno State 62-51.
The ladies shot nearly 49% from the field for the game and limited the Lady Bulldogs to about 32%.
UW also found ways to get to the free throw line as they were 15 of 19 from the charity stripe, while the opposition was only 5 of 5.
Allyson Fertig led the way with a double-double…24 points and 10 rebounds, while Tess Barnes put in 13 points of her own and Emily Mellema added in 11.
The Cowgirls are now 16-12 on the season and have an 11-6 record in the Mountain West Conference, which puts them in a tie for 2nd.
Wyoming concludes the regular season tomorrow at San Diego State.
The women’s Mountain West Conference Tournament in Las Vegas is scheduled to begin this coming Sunday.
Colorado Rockies Pre-Season Baseball: The Colorado Rockies won 2 of their 3 games this past weekend.
On Friday, they won at home vs. Seattle 10-9.
Ryan McMahon and Bradley Zimmer each hit solo shots.
The Rockies were up 10-7 going into the 9th inning, gave up a 2-run home run, but the bullpen was able to recover to preserve the win.
On Saturday, Colorado won at home vs. Cincinnati 10-4.
Ezequiel Tovar hit a grand slam in that game to help the cause.
Yesterday, the Rockies lost at the LA Dodgers 7-4.
The team is back in action this afternoon at home vs. San Francisco beginning at 1:10pm.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets won on Saturday at the LA Lakers 124-114.
The team next plays tomorrow at home vs. Phoenix.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche lost on Saturday at Nashville 5-1.
The Avs play tonight at home vs. Chicago.
