Just because a scenic highway is closed on one side, doesn’t mean it’s closed on the other.
Earlier this week most of the Wyoming side of US Highway 212 on the Beartooth Highway was reopened after repairs caused by the recent flooding activity were completed.
The stretch of highway that is open, runs from the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone National Park to the Beartooth Ski Hill Area, which is about 3 miles south of the Wyoming-Montana border.
The Montana side of the highway is a different issue as snowmelt and flooding damaged at least 6 areas, but most of them were in flat areas, which makes it easier to repair.
Night-time closures of the highway are still in effect from 7pm to 7am, Monday thru Thursday, because of overnight construction work.
The towns of Cooke City and Silver Gate in Montana are open for visitor travel.
