Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks are closed to all park visitors until further notice.

Closure was announced Friday at the request of local county health officers from Park and Teton counties in Wyoming and Park and Gallatin counties in Montana.

The National Park Service in a news release announced that the service is working with federal, state and local authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic, and the health and safety of park visitors, employees, volunteers and partners is the number one priority.

According to the release, no visitor access will be permitted to either park, but state highways and/or roads that transcend park/state boundaries and facilities that support life safety and commerce will remain open.

The public will be notified when the parks resume full operations, and updates will be provided on the park service website and social media channels.

Wyoming’s state parks remain open at this time, but indoor spaces including visitor centers, headquarters and retail locations are closed to visitors.

In keeping with social distancing recommended by the Center for Disease Control, visitors are asked to limit group sizes to less than 10, and for people to stay a minimum of six feet apart.
