Ron RichterCampbell County Public Health was notified early Wednesday of the 16th lab-confirmed COVID-19 case in the County. According to a news release from Campbell County Public Health, the teenage female is currently quarantined at home. The case is particularly concerning for Public Health because the patient had close contact with a large number of people who are considered a high-risk population.
Public Health is working closely with Campbell County Health to coordinate testing the high-risk contacts as quickly as possible. Over 40 contacts were tested Wednesday, with an additional 31 contacts scheduled for testing today. The newest case in Campbell County has temporarily paused the countywide variance orders submitted earlier this week by the Board of Commissioners. State Health Officer Dr. Alexia Harrist, in an email to the Commissioners Wednesday, said that she’s in general support of the provisions in the orders, but thinks that more time is needed to understand the current situation before the variance orders are signed.
Campbell County Public Health and the Wyoming Department of Health immediately began working on contact tracing to quickly identify contacts and to place them in quarantine to prevent the coronavirus from spreading within the community. Public Health Executive Director Jane Glaser said that the test results of the known contacts will likely be a factor in Dr. Harrist’s decision on the requested variance, and that test results should be known within the next 24 to 48 hours.
