Ron RichterThe City of Sheridan has closed all of the playgrounds and restrooms in City parks in an effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Kendrick Park will be closed to vehicular traffic also during this time. The City’s parks and pathway systems will remain open. The closure also affects the playground equipment located at Sheridan County School District Two schools and all playground equipment on Sheridan Recreation District grounds. City Public Works Director Lane Thompson says that the City is following the guidance of health officials and the National Recreation and Parks Association regarding the playgrounds and restrooms closure.
Thompson talked about the decision to keep the parks and pathways open at this time.
Thompson said that there is no definite date as to when they will allow playgrounds to reopen.
Thompson said that dog parks will remain open, but there will be some minor changes that will occur.
Once again, the City is asking all residents to follow the CDC guidelines concerning social distancing while using the parks and pathway system, and to not utilize the pathways and parks if you’re ill or have any reason to believe that you’ve been exposed to COVID-19.

Do you see groups of 10 or more socializing in dog parks? I find that hard to believe.
Also, many people who use the dog parks are elderly or disabled, and cannot stand for more than a minute. Removing the picnic tables I can understand, but removing all seating would just be cruel. Many of them have no yard to let their dog out, and are physically incapable of walking their dogs even just around the block. Removing all seating would force them to keep their dogs indoors, soiling their homes and risking falls.
