Labor Day weekend tends to be the unofficial end of summer, which means many motorists made one more big road trip.
Yellowstone National Park was the destination for a number of travelers.
The park reports that Labor Day 2021 weekend traffic, compared to Labor Day weekend of 2019 was up by 21%.
Labor Day 2020 numbers are not used because of the covid pandemic.
The South entrance to the park saw the biggest increase of traffic which was up 61%, and the Saturday of Labor Day weekend by itself was up 119%.
The Northeast entrance was the only one of the 5 entrances that had a decrease in numbers as it was down by a little more than 10%.
All in all, more than 42,000 visitors were at Yellowstone National Park for the 4-day weekend.
Various places inside the park have started to close for the season.
US Highway 212 over the Beartooth Pass is scheduled to close for the season in about 1 month.
All roads inside Yellowstone National Park except for the roads that go from the north entrance to the northeast entrance, are scheduled to close to motor vehicle traffic for the season on November 8th, unless weather conditions force park officials to move up those dates.
Snowmobile traffic inside the park is scheduled to begin on December 15th.
