Free Admission at Museum at the Bighorns

Carrie Ida Edinger, Director at the Museum at the Bighorns, announced on April 28 that she is excited to share that the Homer A. and Mildred S. Scott Foundation is generously supporting free museum admission until August 31st. This support enables the museum to share exhibits with a broader community through the summer of 2026. The Museum is offering three rotating exhibits and community programs for 2026. These programs and exhibits acknowledge the 150th anniversary of the 1876 events of our region and the celebration of America’s 250th Birthday.

Current exhibits include:

Transition of the Landscape on exhibit until June 28th – The Transition of the Landscape exhibit presents a selection of Jessamine Spear Johnson photographs from the 1926 events of the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of the Little Big Horn. This exhibit explores significant anniversary events of our nation and region, while offering the opportunity to share Jessamine’s view as a resident of the Bighorn Mountain region. The anniversary events included speeches, parades, and Crow Rodeo. 2026 commemorates the 150th Anniversary of the battle.

The Voices and Votes: Democracy in American on exhibit until June 13thThe Voices and Votes: Democracy in American exhibition examines the nearly 250-year-old American experiment of a government “of, by and for the people,” and how each generation since continues to question how to form “a more perfect union.” This exhibit is part of the 250th American Celebration in Sheridan County.

This exhibit has been made possible in Sheridan, Wyoming at the Museum at the Bighorns by the Wyoming State Museum in Cheyenne and the exhibition is part of Museum on Main Street, a unique collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES).

Upcoming exhibits include an exhibit honoring the Miss Indian Americas and All-American Indian Days, which was held in Sheridan from 1953 – 1984. This exhibit will be on display from July 3 – December 27th – The All American Indian Days 1953 – 1984 exhibit is part of the Sheridan County 250th America Celebration. The exhibit presents and reflects on a Sheridan County contribution to national heritage of crossing racial boundaries through a multiday event, All American Indian Days. Some of the exhibit highlights are All American Indian Days activities and Miss Indian America experiences.
