Ron RichterNine Sheridan College Range Club students recently traveled to Laramie for the Wyoming Society for Range Club conference. While at the conference, the students participated in competitions against students from Northwest College and the University of Wyoming. The Sheridan College Range Club students placed in a number of different categories. In the Plant Identification competition, Emma Talbot took second place and Jane Sylvestre finished third. Jaylee Bousman won first place in the Plant Identification Pro-Am, where professionals are randomly paired with amateurs. Chuck Butterfield was the professional that was paired with Bousman.
In the Undergraduate Range Management Exam competition William Mitchell placed second and Paige Padilla placed third. In the Undergraduate Range Management Exam Pro-Am, Hayden Cambell and professional Nate Nixon won second place.
At the conference, students were also able to attend presentations from researchers, producers, and professionals about poisonous plants, livestock guardian animals, virtual fencing, and agency updates. Range Club Advisor and Sheridan College Agriculture Program Director Mae Smith said the students were great representatives for Sheridan College and were able to network with professionals from across the state. The students continue to fundraise and practice for the International Society for Range Management conference held in Sparks, Nevada, at the end of January.
