The HUB on Smith has given volunteers plenty of opportunities to serve seniors in the community over the years, but a new program can introduce both volunteers and seniors who have had trouble getting out of their homes to a bright new future together.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, HUB on Smith Volunteer Coordinator Marcie Morrow talked about a new program called Trailblazers. This program aims to find compassionate volunteers HUB staff will train to provide one-on-one support, assisting Sheridan’s older community members in connecting to community based services. The role of these volunteers goes beyond guidance. They will serve as companions, physically accompanying people, helping them navigate unfamiliar landscapes, and ensuring their transition to these services is smooth and anxiety-free.
Joining the program is an easy process that begins with speaking to front desk staff at the HUB and expressing interest. Volunteers will fill out an application, have an interview and undergo a background check. They will take part in a comprehensive training program and begin their service to Sheridan’s seniors in many different but equally rewarding ways.
Morrow said often, her volunteers will speak about their service to her.
