Downtown Sheridan Main Street Construction Project Impacts Vary From Business To Business

The downtown Sheridan Main Street construction project has been going on for about 1 ½ months, and the impact it has had on businesses that are in the current construction zone has varied.

For some, the location of the business has been critical to its survival.

For others, it’s the longevity, or in other words, how long has that business been in its current location.

The type of business is important as well.

There are also some businesses that are relying on more than one of those factors.

Some businesses say the timing of when their part of Main Street closes is relevant, because tourist season is fast approaching.

Reuben Morris of The Office Barber Shop says his business has been in place for about 25 years, and plans to continue business as normal, because he hasn’t experienced much impact.

“I believe being here so long and a lot of loyal customers over the years and still it helps, because they’re going to get a haircut, they know where to go, they know what they like. People just got to find their way through the maze and get in the door.”

Emily Dilloway is the owner of Tiny Twigs Baby and Kid, which is a children’s clothing store, next door to the Barber Shop and has been in its current place for about two years.

She says she’s thankful her business is in the front end of the construction zone, but one important element of her business is currently missing.

“We are definitely missing our drive-by customers, so because we’re still new, we have a lot of people that drive by and see our building and our sign and they’re like ‘Oh, that’s cute,’ and they want to stop and now that the road’s closed we don’t have that anymore. We do have some loyal customers that know we’re here and they come specifically for us, so we’re grateful for that, but we’re feeling the loss of the drive-by customers per se.”

WYDOT says Dow Street from Brooks to Main Street is anticipated to be finished by middle-June, at which time, Main Street will then be closed between Alger Street and Grinnell Plaza.

Main Street between Dow and Mandel Street is anticipated to be finished by the end of June.

First Street between Main and Gould Street is scheduled to close for one week, beginning May 30th.
