Ron RichterUnited States Attorney for the District of Wyoming Nicholas Vassallo announced Wednesday that 32-year-old Salvador Salas, Jr. of Casper man was found guilty by a federal jury on one count of possession of child pornography and five counts of production of child pornography. The three day jury trial before Chief U.S. District Court Judge Scott Skavdahl took place last week in Casper. Salas will be sentenced at a hearing scheduled for April 14. Salas faces the possibility of life in prison for the charges.
According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Salas drugged and sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl who was babysitting at his home. Salas filmed and photographed the sexual assault. In addition to the video and photographic evidence, the Wyoming State Crime Laboratory recovered Salas’s DNA from the victim’s clothes. When interviewed by law enforcement, Salas admitted that he engaged in sex acts with the minor victim and recorded it using his cellphone. This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Casper Police Department.
