Sheridan College Men’s Rodeo Team Wins 2026 Gillette College Event
Sheridan College’s Rodeo Teams competed at the Gillette College Rodeo in Gillette, Wyo., on March 20-22, with multiple student-athletes earning top finishes and event titles.
The Sheridan College Men’s Team captured the team title at the rodeo and currently sits second in the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings behind the University of Wyoming.
The Women’s Team placed fourth overall at the rodeo and is currently sixth in the region.
For the Men’s Team, Reece Reder led the way in Bareback Riding, placing second in the first round with 77 points and tying for third in the second round with 76 points.
His combined score of 153 points secured the average title.
In Saddle Bronc Riding, Lonnie Dunn claimed first place in the long go with 79 points and added a third-place finish in the short go with 76 points to win the average with 155 points.
Teammate Jake Schlattman placed fourth in the long go with 71 points before winning the short go with 79 points, earning second in the average with 150 points.
Christopher Nelson also contributed with a sixth-place finish in the long go and a fifth-place finish in the short go, placing fifth overall.
In Tie-Down Roping, Tyon Arneson won the long go with a time of 10.2 seconds and added a fifth-place finish in the short go, placing fourth in the average.
Emmett Sortum placed fifth in the long go and sixth in the short go, finishing fifth overall.
In Team Roping, Cole Grant and Canyon Egger placed seventh in the long go and improved to fourth in the short go, finishing fourth in the average.
On the Women’s Team, Ryen Sheppick placed ninth in Barrel Racing with a 15.56-second run in the long go, and followed with a 15.31-second run in the short go to place third, finishing sixth overall.
Josie Johnson recorded a 15.31-second run in the long go to place sixth and a 20.42-second run in the short go, finishing tenth in the average.
In Goat Tying, Tatum Reid turned in a strong performance, placing fourth in the long go with a 7.5-second run and tying for second in the short go with another 7.5-second run alongside teammate RyLee Price, who also clocked a 7.5-second run in the short go.
Price had earlier tied for seventh in the long go with a 7.9-second run, finishing sixth in the average, while Reid secured a third-place overall finish.
Johnson also competed in the event, recording an 8.0-second run in the long go and a 7.9-second run in the short go to place eighth overall.
In Breakaway Roping, Sierra Hilgenkamp tied for fourth in the long go with teammate Blaise Lange recording a 2.4-second run.
Hilgenkamp went on to place fourth in the short go with a 3.5-second run, finishing fourth in the average, while Lange placed ninth overall.
“We’re seeing a really healthy level of competition within the team right now,” said Coach Bobby Harris. “When you have teammates going head-to-head and even tying, it raises the level for everyone. They’re pushing each other in a positive way, and that’s leading to stronger, more consistent performances.”
The Sheridan College Rodeo Teams compete next March 27-29 at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, Wyo.
