Sheridan HS Soccer: The Wyoming High School Spring Sports season started this past weekend, and things got off to a good start for the Sheridan High School teams.
The soccer teams went a combined 4-0 in their games.
The Broncs won on Friday at Worland 1-nil, and gave the Warriors their first loss in nearly 6 years.
Then on Saturday, Sheridan jumped out to a 3-nothing lead at halftime, and went on to win their home opener of the season against Buffalo 4-2.
As for the girls, they won on Friday at Worland 4-zip and then scored at will on Saturday at Buffalo, 12-1.
It’s a short season and conference play starts this coming weekend.
On Friday, Sheridan will play Cheyenne South and on Saturday they take on Laramie.
The boys have the home games, while the girls will be on the road.
Sheridan HS Outdoor Track And Field: The Sheridan track and field teams hosted Buffalo and the 2 Gillette schools in a 4-team meet back on Friday to start the season.
The next scheduled varsity meet is this coming Saturday at Broomfield, Colorado.
University Of Wyoming Cowgirls Basketball: The Wyoming Cowgirls will play again at least one more time.
The team has accepted a bid to play in the women’s NIT, however they will not know their opponent or when and where that game will be played until later today.
According to the WNIT schedule, all first round games will be played either this coming Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
UW has a record of 16-13.
Boise State was the other Mountain West Conference team to get a WNIT bid.
Mountain West Conference regular season and tournament champion UNLV was seeded 10th in the NCAA women’s basketball tournament bracket and will play their first round game this Saturday vs. Creighton and that game will be played at UCLA.
Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball: In Friday’s Mountain West Conference Tournament Semi-finals, #5 seed San Diego State upset top seed Utah State 86-70, and then #6 seed New Mexico beat Colorado State 74-61.
In Saturday’s championship game, New Mexico beat San Diego State 68-61.
The Lobos ended up playing and winning 4 games in 4 straight days to get the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
All-in-all 6 Mountain West Conference men’s teams are in the Big dance.
Two of those six will play in the First Four Games which will be played in Dayton, Ohio, which means they don’t have much time to prepare.
Tomorrow, Colorado State will play Virginia beginning at 7:10pm Mountain Time.
The winner of that game will play Texas on Thursday and that game will be played in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Boise State is also playing in the First Four.
The Broncos play Wednesday at 9:10pm vs. Colorado.
The winner of that game will play Friday against Florida and that game will be played in Indianapolis.
As for the rest of the Mountain West Conference teams that made it, automatic qualifier New Mexico is an 11-seed and plays Friday at 1:10pm in Memphis, Tennessee vs. Clemson.
Utah State is a 9-seed and plays Friday at 7:55pm in Indianapolis vs. TCU.
Nevada is a 10-seed and plays Thursday at 2:30pm in Salt Lake City vs. Dayton.
San Diego State is a 5-seed and plays Friday at 11:45am in Spokane vs. UAB.
All 6 Mountain West Conference Teams that made it to the NCAA tournament each had fewer than 10 losses on the season.
UNLV, who finished 4th in the Mountain West Conference and had 11 losses, was left out of the tournament.
The Rebels will participate in the NIT and will play on Wednesday at Princeton.
Sheridan HS Grad Sam Lecholat And Montana State To Play In NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament: Sheridan High School grad Sam Lecholat and the Montana State Bobcats ended up crashing the party, by winning the Big Sky Tournament.
MSU was a 5-seed going in, and got a lot of help when the top 2 seeds in the Big Sky Conference Tournament, both got beat in the quarterfinals.
Lecholat who is a junior and the Bobcats then topped number 3 seed and arch-rival Montana in the tournament championship game.
MSU has an even record of 17-17 and will play Wednesday in a First 4 game in Dayton at 4:40pm vs. Grambling.
The winner of the game will head to Indianapolis on Friday to play Midwest top seed Purdue.
Colorado Rockies Pre-Season Baseball: Friday’s game for the Colorado Rockies at home vs. Texas was rained out after 1 inning of play.
Since it’s pre-season, the game will not be made up.
On Saturday, the Rockies won at home vs. Oakland 11-9.
Kris Bryant had a 2-run home run in the first inning.
Elias Diaz had a solo shot in the 5th, and Michael Toglia had a 2-run blast in the 7th.
Yesterday, Colorado won at San Francisco 5-3.
The Rockies are off today and will play a split squad game tomorrow, playing at home vs. Cleveland and at Seattle.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets won on Friday at San Antonio 117-106, but lost yesterday at Dallas 107-105.
The Nuggets next play tomorrow at Minnesota.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche made it 6 wins in a row and 8 of the last 9, by winning on Saturday at Edmonton 3-2 in overtime, and scoring the winning goal with 1 second to go.
The Avs next play tomorrow at St. Louis.
