Terrence Lee Pownall
Terrence Lee Pownall, known affectionately by friends and family as Terry, passed away on June 24, 2025, at the age of 72, in Gillette, Wyoming, due to complications from a stroke. Born on July 27, 1952, in Lewistown, Montana to Jack and Ruth Pownall, Terry’s life was one marked by dedication to his family, a love for the open road, and a passion for the simple joys of country life.
Terry attended Campbell County High School, graduating with the class of 1970. His early years were spent on the family ranch, where he developed a love for horses and the outdoors. This love stayed with him throughout his life and was a source of great happiness and contentment. After high school, Terry took to the roads as a self-employed truck driver and heavy equipment operator, a career that spanned his entire life. His work was more than a job; it was a calling that allowed him to experience the freedom he so cherished.
Terry was known for his generous spirit, always willing to lend a hand or a listening ear. His selflessness and ability to fix almost anything made him a cornerstone in both his family and community.
Terry’s family was the center of his universe. He was a devoted father to his three sons, Justin and his wife Angel, Colby and his wife Pamm, and Jared and his wife Jenny. He was a proud grandfather to Ashton, Calla Jo and Joplyn Jo, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. Terry’s love for his family extended to his siblings, Judy Kirkbride and Jeannie Brown, and his brothers, Bryan and Bill Pownall, who will all remember him as a beacon of love and strength.
In his younger days, Terry enjoyed working alongside his father on the family ranch and helping his older brother Bryan on his ranch. These experiences not only shaped his work ethic but also enriched the relationships that he held dear. His love for the land and animals was a testament to his character and his understanding of the value of hard work and dedication.
Terry’s later years were filled with moments of joy, especially those spent with his youngest granddaughter, Joplyn. His face would light up with a unique glow whenever he spoke of her, and the bond they shared was truly special. The absence of her presence was deeply felt by Terry in his final month, a testament to the depth of his love for his family.
Generous, handy, and selfless—these words encapsulate the essence of who Terry was. His legacy is one of love, service, and the quiet strength that comes from a life well-lived. While his passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him to live with the same integrity and kindness that he embodied.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.
Terry’s life was a journey marked by the milestones of love, work, and faith. As we say goodbye to him, we celebrate the path he walked and the footprints he left on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Per his wishes, no services are being planned. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
