Arraignment Held For Man Charged With Multiple Felonies
An arraignment hearing was held via video conference in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan Thursday for 37-year-old James Van Norman, who is charged with three felonies and three misdemeanors, for an incident that began on April 2, and carried over into the early morning hours of April 3. According to court documents, just before midnight on April 2, Van Norman allegedly broke into a garage at a residence in Big Horn and stole a vehicle before leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase that ended in Sheridan.
The three felonies that Van Norman has been charged with include Burglary, Theft and Property Destruction. He’s also been charged with three misdemeanors; DWI, Eluding and Reckless Driving. Van Norman entered “not guilty” pleas to all of the charges at Thursday’s arraignment hearing. District Court Judge John Fenn set the pretrial conference for August 27 at 10 am and scheduled the three-day #3 stack trial to begin on September 28. The #3 stack trial means that there are two other trials scheduled to begin on September 28 as well. If convicted on all counts, Van Norman faces over 31 years in prison and fines of up to $32,250.
