Sheridan County School District 2 trustees have called for weekly meetings until at least the regular board meeting on April 6.

The call came during an emergency meeting of trustees Tuesday morning in which trustees were told about the actions being taken during the current COVID-19 health crisis.

District 2 Superintendent Craig Dougherty said the district has been working closely with Sheridan County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hunter and with the state health department.

Dougherty said School District 2 has come up with a hybrid model in which, if parents absolutely need to have their children in school, the children will attend under the safest, most sanitized conditions possible.

Dougherty said the district has approval of the plan from Dr. Hunter and from the Wyoming Department of Health.

Dr. Hunter also spoke to trustees, some of whom attended the meeting via telephone, saying there will be more cases of the COVID-19 virus in Sheridan County. He said the latest guidelines from the Center for Disease Control website as of Tuesday morning called a limit to gatherings of 50 people or less, 10 or less if the gatherings include those who are elderly or vulnerable.

Dougherty said Sheridan County School District 2 is the caretaker of 3,600 children, and he said he thought the trustees’ request to meet weekly was a good idea.

This online class talk is just hype. The school district does not have the infrastructure or the people to make this happen. Not to mention that not all households have internet access. Almost every college has offered online classes so it won’t be that much a jump for them. Just enjoy playing basketball on the driveway for a couple weeks and forget these rosy prepared statements of trying to keep a resemblance of normalcy.
