Sheridan College play explores strides made and double standards
Girls Like That, by Evan Placey is a play that explores the pressures on young people today in the wake of advancing technology. The play delves into the social pressures young people face, the perils of our digital imprint and the double standards experienced by women in the past and present.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Sheridan College Director of Theater, Dr. Lauren Graffin Estrada, gave listeners a brief synopsis of the play and the important themes that are explored in the performance.
The monologues offer a brief insight into the advances of women to be counted, included and listened to by society. And the play highlights that struggle and how double standards continue to this day.
Dr. Graffin Estrada told listeners that this would be a great play to see with your daughter as it also explores the minefield of being a young woman and the pressures that they face in today’s society.
The performances will be 7 p.m. Friday April 14, and 2 p.m. Saturday April 15, at the WYO Theater. The play is designed for ages 14 and up and contains some strong language and mild adult themes.
