Becca Oetken of Sheridan HS To Wrestle At North Central College: A member of Wyoming’s inaugural class of state girls wrestling champions from Sheridan HS, will continue to compete at a college that’s had some national success.

Senior Becca Oetken has signed a written offer of athletic aid to compete at North Central College, located in Naperville, Illinois, which is a suburb of Chicago.

She is a 2-time Wyoming High School State Champ (undefeated season as a junior), and a 2024 High School All-American in Folkstyle wrestling.

Oetken says college uses the Freestyle format, which is a little bit different and has already been preparing for it with her coaches.

Oetken says she is considering a major in health sciences.

The North Central College Women’s Wrestling Team won the 2023 National Championship, and is the 2024 National Runner-Up behind the University of Iowa.

Sheridan County HS Wrestling: Competition for the Wyoming High School Winter Sports Season starts this coming Thursday.

Both the Sheridan boys and girls wrestlers have a home dual meet vs. Worland on Thursday beginning at 5pm.

Afterwards it will be the Sheridan JV against the Tongue River varsity.

On Friday and Saturday the Broncs will head to a tournament in Powell, while the Lady Broncs will compete at Rapid City, South Dakota.

TR will also travel to Powell on Friday and Saturday.


Sheridan County HS Basketball: Sheridan will start the season at the Casper Invitational.

First up on Thursday is Green River. 

The girls and boys double-header at Natrona County High School will tip off at 12-noon.

On Friday, the Broncs and Lady Broncs play at Kelly Walsh, starting at 5:30pm, and on Saturday, the teams play at Natrona County, with the boys going first at 12-noon.

Tongue River and Big Horn will start their season at the Winter Classic in Burns.

TR will play the host team on Friday beginning at 1pm, and also play 1A Southeast starting at 7pm.

On Saturday, the Eagles and Lady Eagles play 1A Lingle-Ft. Laramie beginning at 1pm.

BH will start their season on Friday against Cheyenne South at 10am, and will play 1A Lingle-Ft. Laramie at 4pm.

On Saturday, the Rams and Lady Rams will play at 3A Wheatland, beginning at 11am.

The Arvada-Clearmont boys and girls basketball teams are scheduled to start their seasons on Friday and Saturday at Upton.

Opponents and schedule are to be announced.


Sheridan HS Boys Swimming and Diving/Nordic Ski: The Sheridan Boys Swimming and Diving Team are scheduled to start their season this Friday and Saturday at Laramie, while the Sheridan Nordic Ski teams will compete in their first race on Friday and Saturday at Jackson.


Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks won both games at home this past weekend vs. Cody, by scores of 10-0 and 7-4.

Josh Serino recorded a hat trick in Friday’s game.

All teams in the NA3HL will converge in Blaine, Minnesota, which is just outside of Minneapolis, beginning Sunday for the league’s annual showcase event.

The Hawks will play Sunday at 6:15pm vs. the Texas Brahmas from North Richland Hills, which is a little bit northeast of Fort Worth.

One week from today, Sheridan will play West Bend, Wisconsin, which is north of Milwaukee, and next week Tuesday, the team will take on Norwich, Connecticut.


Sheridan Hawks Amateur Hockey: The Sheridan Lady Hawks won both games on their opening homestand of the season vs. Gillette, 11-zip and 7-nothing.

The ladies are scheduled to play 4 home games this weekend.

On Friday night and Saturday morning the team will host Laramie, and then on Saturday night and Sunday morning, they’ll take on Casper.

As for the boys, they had this past weekend off from competition.

The team will also play 4 games this weekend.

On Friday night and Saturday morning, the Hawks will play Laramie, and those games will be played at Douglas.

Then on Saturday night and Sunday morning the team will play at Rock Springs.


University of Wyoming Basketball: The Wyoming Cowgirls lost on Friday at Missouri State 62-50.

Allyson Fertig had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Tess Barnes and Emily Mellema contributed 11 points each and Malene Pedersen added in 10.

UW was only 2 of 20 on their 3 point tries and the bench hardly produced any points as Missouri State won that battle 24-3.

The Cowgirls are now 4-5 on the season and next play this coming Sunday at South Dakota.

As for the Wyoming Cowboys, they next play tomorrow at South Dakota, starting at 6pm.


University of Wyoming Volleyball: Wyoming would prevail on Friday 3-2 at home vs. Utah Valley in the second round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship Tournament.

The Cowgirls advance to the quarterfinals and next play Wednesday at Arizona starting at 6pm.


Mountain West Conference Football: Boise State defeated UNLV in the conference championship game on Friday night 21-7.

The Broncos are the #3 seed in the upcoming 12-team college football playoff bracket, and have a first round bye.

BSU will next play on New Years’ Eve in the Fiesta Bowl against the winner between SMU and Penn State.

As for UNLV, the Rebels are heading to the LA Bowl to take on Cal on Wednesday, December 18th, but the team will do so without Head Coach Barry Odom who announced yesterday that he will take over the duties at Purdue.

Other Mountain West Conference teams that got bowl invites include Colorado State who will take on Miami, Ohio in the Arizona Bowl on Saturday, December 28th.

The Potato Bowl on Monday, December 23rd is between Fresno State and Northern Illinois, while San Jose State will play on Christmas Eve in the Hawaii Bowl against South Florida.


Denver Broncos Football: The Denver Broncos had this past weekend off and are now preparing for a home game this Sunday vs. Indianapolis.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2:25pm.

The Broncos lead both the Colts and the Miami Dolphins by 2 games in the race for the final AFC wild card spot, with 4 games remaining.

Should Denver win, and Miami were to lose, the team would lock up a post-season spot.

Unfortunately, there’s no way the Broncos can finish first in the AFC West.

Kansas City wrapped up their 9th straight division title last night.


Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets split road games this past weekend, losing on Saturday at Washington 122-113, but recovered to win yesterday at Atlanta 141-111.

In those 2 games, Nikola Jokic was a scoring machine with 56 and 48 points respectively.

The Nuggets next play this Friday at home vs. the LA Clippers.


Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche won both games on the road this past weekend, winning on Saturday 2-1 at Detroit and 4-zip yesterday at New Jersey.

The Avs conclude their 5-game East Conference road trip tomorrow at Pittsburgh.
