Tongue River and Sheridan HS Basketball: March Madness basketball will start tomorrow, 1 day early, on Leap Year Day in both Sheridan and in Casper.
The Tongue River girls and boys teams will play in back-to-back games late tomorrow morning and early tomorrow afternoon at the 2A State Tournament in Casper.
At 10:30am at Casper College, the Lady Eagles play Rocky Mountain and at 12-noon the Eagles take on Big Piney.
In Sheridan, various 4A East boys and girls basketball teams will start arriving tonight in preparation for the 4A East Regional tournament that starts tomorrow.
Games tip off as early as 9am.
The Lady Broncs and the Broncs will play in back-to-back games, starting with the girls against Laramie at 5pm and the boys vs. Cheyenne South at 6:30pm.
The schedule for Friday and Saturday will be dependent on Thursday’s results.
Sheridan County HS Indoor Track and Field: The Wyoming High School State Indoor Track and Field Meet is this coming Friday and Saturday at Gillette.
Sheridan, Big Horn and Tongue River will all participate.
Competition starts at 10:30am Friday and at 9am Saturday.
The Sheridan girls are the defending 4A State Champs and the Sheridan boys placed 3rd last year.
Sheridan HS Girls Wrestling: Two lady Broncs brought home individual state titles.
Paityn Covolo won her first state title at 135 pounds, in a 6-5 decision, against a Star Valley opponent that she had faced one month ago.
It was 6-5 with 53 seconds to go in the match and Covolo had the advantage.
All she had to do was hang on for those 53 seconds and make sure her opponent did not break-free.
She says when you’re in a position like that, 53 seconds can seem like an eternity.
Becca Oetken won her 2nd straight state championship, this time at 190 pounds and went undefeated on the season.
The junior says this year was a little more difficult for her in terms of winning a state title, because there were more competitors compared to the inaugural season last year, but she’s not complaining.
Sheridan Hawks Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks conclude the regular season this weekend at home vs. Cody.
The puck drops at 7:30pm both nights.
Sheridan needs to win both games and get help in the form of Rapid City and Great Falls losing both of their respective games in regulation.
If all of that happens, the Hawks might be able to make the playoffs, depending on how the tie-breakers work.
University of Wyoming Basketball: Last night the Wyoming Cowboys rallied from 10-points down early in the second half, to force overtime at home against UNLV.
However, the offense for the Brown and Gold was late to the overtime party, because they did not get their first field goal, until about halfway through the extra time.
By then the opposition had a decent lead, and the Pokes would fall 75-69.
Brendan Wenzel scored 20 points for UW, while Sam Griffin put in 13 and Mason Walters added in 12.
Wyoming is now 13-15 on the season and have a 6-9 record in the Mountain West Conference, with 3 games remaining in the regular season.
Border War Part 2 is this Saturday at Colorado State.
The Wyoming Cowgirls play tonight at San Jose State.
Tip off is scheduled for 8 o’clock and you can hear that game LIVE on FOX Sports 106.3 FM.
Colorado Rockies Pre-Season Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost yesterday at Kansas City 4-3.
The teams’ next game is today at home against the LA Angels.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:10pm.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche got a big win at home last night vs. Dallas 5-1.
The Avs next play tomorrow at Chicago.
