Pat BlairThe Bighorn National Forest has postponed all new ignitions for prescribed fire until further notice.
The decision to temporarily postpone ignitions was announced Tuesday and is to prevent any effects from smoke that might further worsen conditions for those who are at risk.
In addition, the postponement reduces exposure from travel for employees and creates social distancing for resources working on the fire.
Forest Service personnel say potential smoke impacts to the public are considered in all prescribed fire and wildfire management, and the Forest Service works in coordination with local and state health organizations.
