Early Childhood Festival to be Saturday at College

Parents, grandparents, child care providers and other adults with young children are invited to bring them to the third annual Early Childhood Festival at Sheridan College Saturday.

Jeriann Jacobson, who’s Sheridan College’s early childhood liaison, said the event will be from 9 a.m. to noon and is free.

Jacobson said the festival will be in the college atrium and there will be 24 stations where families can be actively engaged in play with their children and discover what their children are learning or practicing. She said all the activities connect to school readiness.

There also will be a toy exchange, where parents can bring a gently used, clean toy and exchange it for a more age-appropriate toy for their child.

Jacobson said child providers in the community will have a chance to share who they are during the festival and provide families with information on who they are, what their fees and hours are and what they can offer children placed in their care.

She said the festival is also a great opportunity for providers to network with other providers.

She said the festival also provides a way for families to learn what’s required to be ready for school.

But the most important part of the festival, she said, is for families to come and have fun together. She said the event is a reminder to families to have fun with their little ones while the children are growing.
