Early preparation for potential flooding a good idea

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez suggested anyone who has experienced flooding in the spring in the past may want to begin gathering sandbags as soon as possible.
According to the Sheriff, deputies are helping Sheridan County departments to gather information during their patrols through the county.
With the high amount of snow that has been accumulated throughout the Bighorn Mountains, Dominguez has deputies looking for areas in the county that may be potential sites facing flooding in the near future.
For residents that have endured flooding in the past, he suggests visiting the county’s self-serve sandbag sites and preparing as soon as possible to save both more work and potential damage in the future.
Sheridan County has both sandbags and sand at the following locations:
- Sheridan County Fairgrounds-west side near fence line
- City of Sheridan Service Center at 1148 Kroe Lane. We are open from 7-4:30 Monday through Friday
- Fire Hall, Story
- Fire Hall, Big Horn
- Sheridan County shop (south of Girl’s School) Monday – Thursday, gate closes at 4:30 PM; closed Friday – Sunday.
- Ranchester Town Hall
- Dayton Town Shop
Sheridan County Emergency Management has alerted the public to bring their own gear such as a shovel and gloves. Complete details about these locations can be found by clicking here.
