Ben Forsythe Of Sheridan HS To Swim At Drury University
One of Sheridan High School’s most successful swimmers will swim for a University that’s had a lot of national championship success.
Ben Forsythe has signed a written offer of athletic aid to compete at Drury University, which is a private NCAA Division II school, located in Springfield, Missouri.
Last month, Forsythe 3-peated as Wyoming State Champ in both the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke races, and was named swimmer of the year for the second year in a row.
He was born in Russia and was adopted and brought to America when he was 1 year old, living first in Maryland, near the US Naval Academy.
Forsythe’s family moved to the Sheridan area during his junior high school days and as a high school swimmer, he broke multiple records at various school pools.
He explains what he thinks it was that got the attention of the Panthers’ swim team and adds he ended up surprising himself with all the records he broke.
“I would say that they saw speed, pure speed in that 50 freestyle and I think that’s what they’re really aiming to improve. It was really surprising at first. It took awhile to notice how much I was actually doing and how many records I was breaking, but over the last years, it just been a great honor to have that.”
Forsythe says he plans to major in either biology or pre-med.
The DU men’s swimming and diving team won 10 National Championships, between 1981 and 1994 as an NAIA team and 12 NCAA Division II National Championships, between 1999 and 2014.
