It’s time for high school aged hockey teams to hit the ice.

The 2-time defending state champ Sheridan Lady Hawks start their season by running the gauntlet on the road.

The team plays Friday night and Saturday morning (November 21st and 22nd) at Pinedale, and then Saturday night and Sunday morning (November 22nd and 23rd) at Jackson.

Pinedale was last season’s 3rd place team and Jackson was last season’s state runners-up.

Sheridan Head Coach Jay Charlebois says a lot of talent graduated from last season’s team that needs to be replaced.

As for the opposition…not so much.

“As far as I know looking at the rosters, they didn’t lose much and they’ve only gained players. We’ve lost quite a bit of seniors last year. I have 2 players that are off to prep schools and several that have moved up, so very young team. Just trying to keep everything the same. The off-ice stuff, the team building, the practices. The plan’s the same, just got to execute it and see what happens.”

The Lady Hawks play their first 6 games on the road, and will play their home opener on Saturday and Sunday, December 13th and 14th vs. Cheyenne.

Boys:

The Sheridan Hawks boys amateur team started their season 2 weeks ago, with a pair of 5-2 wins at Casper.

The team competes at the ‘B’ Level and is scheduled to play their home opening games Saturday and Sunday (November 22nd and 23rd) vs. Rock Springs.

Hawks Head Coach Ryan Johnson says like the girls, the boys also lost a good amount of talent to graduation, but so far he’s seen some more speed compared to last year, and now it’s a matter of finding out which players will step up scoring wise.

“We had, I think 7 or 8 seniors last year and a couple of them were my top scorers, but I always say that creates opportunity for new top scorers so I have no doubts that we’re going to have 2 new top scorers this year, that had a good season last year and they’ll step right into the roles of the seniors that we lost.”

The puck drops Saturday at 4:15pm and on Sunday at 10am.
