High School National Finals Rodeo: The High School National Finals Rodeo concluded this past Saturday in Rock Springs and 2 competitors from North-Central Wyoming finished in the top 10 of their respective event.

Wyoming State Champ and recent Sheridan High School graduate Abagail Olson finished as the National Runner-Up in the Barrel Racing.

She placed 3rd in Round 1, 5th in Round 2 and 3rd in the Championship Short-Go, and finished about 0.22 seconds behind the eventual winner.

Olson will begin her college rodeo career at Fort Hays State University in Kansas.

In the Steer Wrestling Colson Myers of Buffalo would finish 7th overall.

He had a time of 7.2 seconds in Round 1, 5.85 seconds in Round 2, and 6.37 seconds in the championship short-go.

That gave him a 3-round total of 19.42 seconds which was about 4.69 seconds behind the winner.


Sheridan Troopers/Jets Legion Baseball: Last night the Sheridan Troopers split their home and regular season finale games against Gillette.

In the first game, Tyler Riesen hit a 2-run home run to help the team get out to an early 3-1 lead, but it was all Roughriders after that, and the final score was 11-3.

In the second game, Frankie Maestri pitched a complete game 7-innings, throwing 106 pitches in his last home game as a Trooper, to help the team win 10-2.

Head Coach Austin Cowen says he’s pleased with the way the team bounced back after getting a wake up call in Game 1.

With the double-header split, Sheridan has secured the #4 seed for the AA State Tournament which starts one week from today at Casper.

The bracket should be available sometime this coming Wednesday.

The Troopers first round opponent will be either the Cheyenne Hawks or Laramie.

This coming Thursday’s games vs. the 406 Flyers out of Billings have been canceled.

Also, the Sheridan Jets qualified for the A-League State Tournament after winning 2 out of 3 games at home vs. the Cheyenne Eagles this past weekend.

The team will be the #3 seed out of the East and will play Cody in the first round.

The A-League State Tournament starts this coming Saturday at Powell.


Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies won 2 out of 3 games this past weekend at home vs. San Francisco.

On Friday, the Rocks hit 3 home runs and that paved the way to a 7-3 win.

Brenton Doyle hit a 2-run shot, Jake Cave went yard for 3-runs and Ezequiel Tovar had a solo home run.

On Saturday, Tovar hit a 2-run blast which ended up making the difference, as Colorado won 4-3.

Yesterday, Brendan Rodgers provided all the runs for the Rockies with a 2-run home run, but it was not enough as the team lost 3-2.

Today, the Rocks start a 3-game home series vs. Boston.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40pm.
