University of Wyoming Football: Week 2 of practice is underway for the Wyoming Cowboy football team, and that means it’s time to put on the pads.

The Pokes continue to prepare for their season opening game which is 3 weeks from tomorrow at Akron.

Although it is the scoreboard that ultimately determines which team wins and loses, the stats can sometimes tell the tale.

When it comes to rushing, last year the Pokes were about in the middle of the pack stat wise in the Mountain West Conference, in terms of average yards per game and attempts.

When it came to yards per rush and rushing TD’s, the numbers were not as good.

Head Coach Jay Sawvel says part of that reason was a stat that he found, that normally is not on the stat report, and he plans to work on this season.

Defensively against the rush, Wyoming was in the bottom half of the conference in terms of total rushing yards allowed, average yards per rush and average rush yards allowed per game.
