Morning Sports: September 2, 2025
Sheridan HS Football: Judging by the final score of their first game, the Sheridan High School Football team is off to a promising start in their 5-peat quest.
The Broncs went on the road and shut out Cheyenne South 59-zip.
Head Coach Jeff Mowry says the offense did not get to play much as he would’ve liked, before he had to call off the dogs, because of the special stuff done by the special teams unit.
Sheridan ran one punt back for a touchdown, blocked 2 other punts and scored touchdowns on both of them, and scored 2 safeties.
Coach Mowry adds the coaching staff will go through the film and he’s sure they’ll find a few things that didn’t go right, because it was only the first game of the season.

The Broncs play their home opener this coming Friday against Thunder Basin.
Tongue River/Big Horn/Buffalo/Kaycee HS Football: Tongue River lost an exhibition game at the Sheridan JV team back on Saturday, 28-7.

The Eagles play their home opener this coming Friday vs. Thermopolis.
Big Horn played last week in a scrimmage in Casper, against the Natrona County Sophomore team.
The Rams play their home opener this coming Friday vs. Lovell.
Buffalo also played a scrimmage this past Saturday at Lovell.
The Bison start their season this coming Friday at Newcastle.
In 6-man football, Kaycee lost an exhibition game back on Friday at home vs. Casper Christian 28-14.
The Buckaroos play at home this coming Friday vs. Farson-Eden.
Sheridan/Johnson County HS Volleyball: The North-Central Wyoming teams went 12-14 in games played this past weekend to start the season.
Sheridan went 1-4 at the Cheyenne Invitational, losing against Kelly Walsh, Rock Springs, Star Valley and Green River, then got their first win of the season by defeating Riverton.
Big Horn went 4-2 at the Douglas Invitational, picking up wins against Alliance, Nebraska, Wheatland and Buffalo.
The Lady Rams lost vs. 3A teams Cody and Douglas, then picked up a win against Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Tongue River went 5-0 on the weekend to win the Rocky Mountain Invitational.
The Lady Eagles defeated Riverside, Burlington, Greybull, Dubois, and Burlington for a second time.
Arvada-Clearmont went 0-4 at the Lingle-Ft. Laramie Invitational, losing against the host team, as well as Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow, Rock River and Lusk.
Buffalo went 2-4 at the Douglas Invitational, losing against Wheatland, Alliance, Nebraska and Big Horn.
The Lady Bison picked up wins vs. Glenrock and Moorcroft, then lost vs. Wright.

This weekend, Sheridan, Big Horn, Tongue River and Buffalo are all scheduled to compete at the Gillette Invitational.
A-C will start 1A Northeast quadrant play on Friday at Upton and on Saturday at home vs. Midwest.
Sheridan/Johnson County HS Golf: Sheridan competed at the Gillette Invitational last weekend, and Buffalo was at Worland, while Tongue River and Big Horn hosted a 1-day meet at Kendrick Golf Course.
Easton Lewis and Savannah Tremain finished 1st individually on the boys and girls side.
This week, Sheridan and Buffalo are scheduled to compete at the Buffalo Invitational on Thursday and Friday.
TR and BH are scheduled to compete on Friday at Moorcroft and on Saturday at Lusk.
In Tennis, Sheridan won North Conference Dual Meets this past weekend at home vs. both Cody and Powell.

The Broncs and Lady Broncs will play their home finale tomorrow against Jackson, beginning at 11am.
In Cross Country, Sheridan, Tongue River and Buffalo ran at the UW Invitational in Cheyenne, back on Saturday.
Eli Balkenbush of Sheridan placed 3rd individually to help the Broncs place 2nd in the team standings.
Big Horn ran on Friday at the Billings Invitational.
Sophomore Lyla Marney was 2nd in the girls race.
This Friday is the Buffalo Invitational at the TA Ranch.
Sheridan/Buffalo HS Girls Swimming and Diving: Both Sheridan and Buffalo started their season this past weekend at the Gillette relays and pentathlon.
Junior Hannah Mowry placed 2nd overall for the Lady Broncs.
Sheridan is scheduled to compete this Friday at Kelly Walsh and on Saturday at Natrona County, while Buffalo goes to Cody on Friday.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost 3 of 4 home games played during the course of the Labor Day Weekend.
Things started off by losing 2 out of 3 against the Chicago Cubs.
The Rocks lost on Friday 11-7.
Yanquiel Fernandez and Kyle Farmer each hit 2-run shots.
The Cubs won on Saturday 4-3.
On Sunday, Colorado won 6-5 to avoid the sweep, thanks to Mickey Moniak’s walk-off triple.
The Rockies started a 3-game home series yesterday vs. San Francisco and lost 8-2.
The 2 teams will play each other again today starting at 6:40pm.
