Sheridan Community Lands Trust would like to inform curious producers and County residents on how virtual fencing is being used on working ranches.

The Land Trust is inviting everyone to join them and Halter for a free Dinner & Forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 12 at the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Sheridan Hotel & Convention Center.

RSVPs were due by Friday, June 5, but Halter representative Katie Turner said she will gladly accept further RSVPs to ensure as many people are informed on this new technology as possible. Text Katie Turner at 307-207-6970 to RSVP for this event.

Attendees will hear directly from local ranchers using virtual fencing on their operations. Attendees are invited to ask questions, swap ideas, and learn what is working on the ground right here in the Cowboy State. Dinner is provided, and families are welcome.

Virtual fencing involves GPS-enabled collars placed on cattle and connected to an app, creating invisible boundaries that reduce the need for posts, gates, and barbed wire. Ranchers can monitor herds in the app while gaining flexibility in where and how to graze cattle.

Last year, Sheridan Community Land Trust Director of Conservation John Graves appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to speak on the pilot program utilizing the wireless technology to create fencing in a Sheridan County.

According to SCLT, a field day at Broken Arrow Ranch will follow at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 13 for those interested in seeing the technology in action.
