The Food Group Expands Summer Food Access for Sheridan County Children

Published

on

The Food Group Interim Director Shane Rader and Program Director Jenny Tribley discussed the organization’s continuing mission to fight childhood hunger in Sheridan County by ensuring children have access to nutritious food when school meals are unavailable.

Founded to address weekend food insecurity, the nonprofit now serves more than 1,000 children through weekend food bags, home deliveries, summer programs and community partnerships. Traditionally, during the summer, The Food Group distributed weekend food bags through schools across Sheridan County. This year, however, the organization expanded its pickup locations to make food more accessible for families.

Tribley said each location is managed by a local representative who knows the families in the area. She added that the expanded network has the potential to continue year-round.

As the new school year approaches, The Food Group is preparing to support students across all three Sheridan County school districts through the efforts of community volunteers and donations.
