SCSD#2 Board Recognizes National Merit Finalists

There were several recognitions at the Monday, March 9, SCSD#2 Board meeting, including five National Merit Finalists, Matthew Brown, Lorenzo Cherry, Nicholas Matheney, Lincoln Robbins, & Gavin Toth. Lincoln Robbins could not attend the meeting, but the other four students attended. Scott Cleland talked about the honor.

Trustee Ed Fessler added that 1.5 million students took the PSAT each year to qualify for this award. Out of that number it is estimated 16,000 will be semi-finalists, about 15,000 become finalists. That is less than 1% of those students who take the test. “Gentlemen, you have demonstrated incredible prowess.” In the state of Wyoming there were 20 semi finalists.

Scott Cleland introduced the UW Trustees Scholarship Award Recipients: Matt Brown, Lorenzo Cherry, Shaun Gonda, Theodore Keegan, Cameron Sulz, & Gavin Toth.

He also introduced Wyoming ProStart Teacher of the Year, Christy Andersen and Anderson talked about the ProStart Breadbaking Team State Champions.

Kasey Garnhart and Coach Brent Moore recognized Ben Forsythe as the Boys’ Swimming Individual State Champion, 50 free & 100 breaststroke three-peat and Swimming Athlete of the Meet & Swim Athlete of the Year (2x)

In his superintendent’s report, Scott Stults talked about the school website,

He added they are also working on the climate survey for the school. Stults talked about the legislature and the legislative forum, which was held in February. He said he held his second Chat with the Superintendent to let community members chat about their concerns.

He was also impressed with the Sheridan High School play, Anastasia the Musical which was performed last week at the High School.

Many other board members added that thought the play was professionally done.

He also mentioned that outdoor sports have started.

Stults also talked about several bills at the legislature that will affect SCSD#2, including the re-calibration bill.

He added that even though there is an increase in funding, it does take away some of the flexibility that the school used to have when the block grant was used for funding. “We will continue to work with the business office to come up with a budget.”

The board approved the 2026-2027 9-12 Student Handbooks and heard a report on Kindergarten Registration from Rebecca Adsit. they also approved pavement maintenance and SHS building brick repair.
