The Arvada-Clearmont Student Council held their annual 9-11 Patriot Day Ceremony on Tuesday, Sept 10 at the school. The ceremony was to honor the memory of those who died on Sept. 11, 2001, when a terrorist attack took down the twin towers in New York.

The 9-11 attacks left 2,977 dead. That total included the 2,753 who died in New York, 184 people at the Pentagon and 40 people who died when Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania.

The ceremony took place outside near the flagpole, and the school band played several selections, including American the Beautiful, a medley of the hymns and fight songs from the various branches of the service, starting with Wild Blue Yonder, (Air Force), The Army Goes Rolling Along, (Army), Anchors Aweigh, (Navy) and The Marine’s Hymn (Marines), and ending with the National Anthem.

There were readings about 9-11 by student council officers Dellana Michelena, President, Skye Malli, Vice President and Chole Mauck, Secretary.

Landon Maedge, The Sheridan Army National Guard recruiter, attended the event.

He raised the Stars and Stripes and the Wyoming State Flag on the school flagpole, with the help of Michelena.

Each student shook Maedge’s hand and thanked him for his service as they went back inside to start their day.
