Contact Tracing Affected by COVID-19 Surge

Published

The recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Wyoming prompted Governor Mark Gordon to call on the Wyoming National Guard to assist the Wyoming Department of Health with contact tracing. The surge in cases locally has also taken its toll on the efficiency of contact tracing in Sheridan County. During a recent update to the Sheridan City Council, Sheridan County Health Director Dr. Ian Hunter addressed the issue.

Sheridan County COVID-19 Public Information Officer Jennifer Graves detailed how contract tracing has changed throughout the pandemic.

Wyoming Department of Health Director Mike Ceballos said the Guard’s assistance is only a temporary solution until additional contact tracing resources can be put into place.

it’s a little hard to contact trace when people aren’t honest and can’t even quarantine when they’re supposed to..
NO I’m not assuming I know people who are not quarantined when they’re supposed to

H1N1 infected 60,000,000 in 2009, yet I dont recall any contact tracing, or the mandates to wear a mask. Then President Obama ordered a health emergency, but also stated that there was no need to panic…..and this was before the real effects of H1N1 were realized. As VP Bidens chief of staff Ron Klain had stated “It is purely a fortuity that this isn’t one of the great mass casualty events in American history”, and added that it was pure luck and not anything they did right.

Dont get me wrong. The virus is real and can be deadly to certain individuals, but then so is the hype and fear mongering which also can have devastating effects on people. Whats the difference between now and then? I would say that part of it is who occupies the White house.

Well in the time span of a year, 80.8 million infected with Swine flu (h1n1) led to around 12,469 American Deaths. Covid-19 has killed more than 220,000 Americans in less than 6 months. That is 1039 Americans dead per month from swine flu (h1n1) and around 36,000 Americans dead per month from Covid-19. Are we starting to see the difference? Even if a person doesn’t die from Covid-19, the healthcare costs, time off from work, business closed, jobs lost, and unknown long term effects are concerning. Viruses do not care about politics or boundaries drawn on a map. Do your part.

The difference is how they are counted.

“There are other countries that if you had a pre-existing condition, and let’s say the virus caused you to go to the ICU [intensive care unit] and then have a heart or kidney problem. Some countries are recording that as a heart issue or a kidney issue and not a COVID-19 death.

“The intent is … if someone dies with COVID-19 we are counting that”

        – Dr. Deborah Birx

That would make covid ONLY deaths around 6% of the number cited. In my research, I could not find a source that stated how the deaths from H1N1 were calculated.

But you’re right, Ron, viruses dont care about politics or boundaries, but the media and politicians trying to score political points do. Yes, I do my part. I just dont fall for the constant fear mongering. That in itself is unhealthy in many ways.
