Sheridan HS Wrestling: Two Sheridan High School wrestlers brought home a state championship in their respective weight class this past weekend.
Senior Keegan Rager is one of them.
Last year he won it at 165 pounds and this year he did it at 175, going 49-1 in the process.
Last year he went undefeated, but he says wins and losses and the numbers don’t always tell the tale.
The other state champion Bronc is Junior Braxten Crow who had an undefeated season at 190 pounds.
While he didn’t win the championship via pinfall, he ended up winning by tech fall, and didn’t take long to do it either.
He says going undefeated was a goal when the season started and gives credit to his older brother.
The Sheridan boys wrestling team placed 7th at the state meet.
Sheridan Swimming: The Boys State Meet was 2 weeks ago, and the Girls State Meet was back in November, however there was at least one more competition worth getting back into the pool for.
This past weekend the Sheridan Swim Team competed at the Wyoming Swimmers Incorporated Winter Short Course Championships held in Gillette.
A total of 26 Sheridan swimmers went and competed against 535 athletes from 22 teams competing from across Wyoming and the Nebraska panhandle.
The team won the Division 2 championship based on their results.
Among those results include Senior Ben Forsythe who set new state records in both the 50 yard butterfly and 50 yard breaststroke races.
University of Wyoming Men’s and Women’s Basketball: Both the Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls were victorious last night, in the home finale for both teams.
The men’s score against Nevada was 83-73.
The Pokes shot 63% for the game and had a 21-point lead at halftime.
The opposition was able to cut it down to 7, but by then, it was too late.
Khaden Bennett led the way for the Brown and Gold with 27 points.
Damarion Dennis put in 18.
Gavin Gores came off the bench to contribute with 11 and Leland Walker scored 10 points of his own.
The Cowboys are now 17-13 on the season and have an 8-11 record in the Mountain West Conference.
The team is scheduled to conclude the regular season this coming Saturday at San Jose State.
As for the Cowgirls, they beat Grand Canyon University 59-57.
Malene Pedersen led the way with 20 points, while Henna Sandvik put in 16.
UW concludes the regular season with an overall record of 10-19 and have a 7-13 record in the Mountain West Conference.
That puts them in a tie for 8th and 9th with Air Force and it just so happens, that is the team they will play in the first round of the Women’s Mountain West Conference Tournament, which begins this coming Saturday in Las Vegas.
Tip-off is scheduled for 1pm and it is the first game of the tournament.
The winner will take on top seed San Diego State on Sunday.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche won last night at Anaheim 5-1.
The Avs are next scheduled to play this coming Friday at Dallas and on Sunday at home vs. Minnesota.
