The Northern Wyoming Community College District is moving forward with its budget for the new fiscal year, but there could be some unforeseen challenges.

The Board of Trustees approved its operating budget of $32.4 million, and it is anticipated that at the end of the fiscal year, the District will have a surplus of about $600,000 and will be able to make a payment on its District Series 2018 bond.

The budget accounts for no funding from the city of Gillette, or Campbell County, as well as other private and public funding within Campbell County, because the separate procedure between the District and Gillette College is on-going.

Both the District and the College are working and updating a memorandum of understanding related to shifting employees, staff and faculty to the College, as well as other various costs, payroll and expenses.

District President Doctor Walter Tribley says it’s hard to tell what will happen in the new fiscal year in terms of new separation issues and how that will impact the District’s budget and revenue.

Dr. Walter Tribley

“The part that’s ongoing now is that the costs of running Gillette College are moving over to the new district. They didn’t all go over at one time, so they’re going over in phases, and so this year will probably be, this year and perhaps into next, but this year will be one of the more complicated budgets because that’s an exercise of skillful estimating.”

The fall semester of classes is scheduled to begin on August 29th.
