Sheridan HS Boys and Girls Basketball 4A State Tournament: In the first round of the Wyoming Class 4A State Basketball Tournament yesterday in Casper, the East Conference boys and girls, which includes the Sheridan Broncs and Lady Broncs, pulled off a clean sweep of the west.

The Sheridan boys withstood an early assault and a 4th quarter comeback bid by Star Valley, to win 55-47.

The Broncs were able to get the Braves into foul trouble, and that resulted in a lot of trips to the free throw line.

Sheridan was 15 of 25 from the charity stripe, while SV was only 3 of 7.

In the 4th quarter, Star Valley was able to close the gap to 2 points, but Broncs head coach Jeff Martini credits his boys for keeping it together.

In last night’s game, Nate Miner led Sheridan with 15 points, while Tanner Hamrick put in 10.

The Broncs will take on Campbell County today in the semi-finals starting at 8:30pm inside the Ford Wyoming Center.

The Camels beat Kelly Walsh 58-48.

The other semi-final game at 7pm is between Thunder Basin and Laramie.

The Bolts defeated Evanston 46-31, while Laramie knocked off west top seed Natrona County 66-55.

On the girls side, Sheridan did not have trouble taking care of business against Natrona County in the first game of the day, yesterday.

The Lady Broncs shot 44% for the game, and scored 26 points off of turnovers, en route to a 62-42 win.

Mesa Hanft had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Avery McMullen put in 18.

Up next is the semi-finals today at 4pm, and for the 4th time this season, Sheridan will take on a Cheyenne East team that’s had their number this season.

The Lady Thunderbirds beat Kelly Walsh yesterday 36-20.

McMullen says the Lady Broncs are not concerned about the past, because last year, 4 was the lucky number when the team won the state championship game.

You can hear the LIVE radio play-by-play of both the Lady Broncs against Cheyenne East at 4pm and the Broncs against Campbell County at 8:30pm, on AM 1410 KWYO and 106.9 FM.

The other girls semi-final game at 5:30pm is between Cheyenne Central and Campbell County.

Central defeated Star Valley yesterday 68-33, while the Lady Camels topped Green River 57-41.
