Dane Steel Of Sheridan HS Named 2023 WY Gatorade Football Player Of The Year: For the 5th time in 6 years, the Sheridan High School Bronc Football team has produced the Wyoming Gatorade Player of the Year in the sport.
For the recent 2023 season, Dane Steel wins the honor this time.
This past season he had 970 yards receiving, but he found ways to score in all facets of the game.
Steel caught 9 TD passes, ran in 8 more, returned 6 punts, 2 pick 6’s and 1 kickoff return for scores.
He was named a unanimous all-state selection as a wide receiver, defensive back and return specialist and was the 4A offensive and defensive player of the year according to the coaches.
He says he learned a lot from his 2 older brothers.
Steel has already signed his letter of intent to play at Montana State.
During his time as a Sheridan Bronc, he says he saw his share of rivalry games, but a college football rivalry game has a much different feel to it, and he’s looking forward to the feud between the MSU Bobcats and the Montana Grizzlies.
Steel is also a 2-time Wyoming High School State Champion wrestler and a 2-time All-American.
Sheridan and Tongue River Wrestling: Sheridan Bronc wrestlers as well as Tongue River will be back on the mat tomorrow and Saturday at Douglas.
The Sheridan Girls will compete at Bozeman, Montana.
Sheridan HS Basketball: Sheridan is back in action today as they take part in the 3-day Cheyenne Invitational.
The Broncs and Lady Broncs will play all of their games at Cheyenne East.
Today they play Green River.
The girls game tips off at 3:30pm and the boys game will follow.

Tomorrow Sheridan plays Kelly Walsh beginning at 3pm, and then on Saturday they play Evanston starting at 12-noon.
Big Horn and Tongue River HS Basketball: Big Horn and Tongue River will play Friday and Saturday vs. all 4 teams out of the 2A Southeast.
On Friday, the BH Boys will play at Lusk, first against the host team, and later they’ll play Burns.
On Saturday the Rams will play at Lingle-Ft. Laramie against Pine Bluffs and the Doggers.
The TR boys will play at Lingle vs. PB and the host team on Friday.
On Saturday the Eagles will travel to Lusk to take on Burns and the host team.
For the girls, BH will play all of their games this weekend at Sundance.
On Friday the Lady Rams play Pine Bluffs and Burns, and on Saturday they go up against Lingle-Ft. Laramie and Lusk.
The TR girls will play all of their games this weekend at Wright.
The Lady Eagles go up against Lusk and Lingle-Fort Laramie on Friday and then Pine Bluffs and Burns on Saturday.

Sheridan HS Boys Swimming and Nordic Ski Teams: The Sheridan boys swim team will host their pre-invite tomorrow at 4pm, and then host the Sheridan Invitational on Saturday beginning at 9am.
The Sheridan high School Nordic Ski team will compete on Casper Mountain tomorrow and Saturday.
Unversity of Wyoming Basketball The Wyoming Cowgirls won last night at Utah State 54-48.
Allyson Fertig led all scorers with 18 points, while Tess Barnes put in 11.
UW is now 2-0 in Mountain West Conference play and next play Saturday at Air Force.
Tip off is scheduled for 1pm.
The Wyoming Cowboys are back in action on Saturday at 8pm at New Mexico.
Sheridan Hawks Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks are back in action after a 2 ½ week break from competition.
The team plays tomorrow and Saturday at Cody, and will return home next weekend to play Rapid City.
The team is participating in a public skate today from 1 until 2:30pm at the M and M’s Center.
