Wyoming’s unemployment rate in January did not increase much from the previous month, but numbers in the North-Central part of the state have caught up to the rest of the country.

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services says the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for January 2026 was at 3.6%, which is up from 3.5% in the previous month.

The rate was at 3.2% in January 2025.

The US Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for January 2026 was at 4.3%, which is down from 4.4% in December, but up from 4.0% in January 2025.

Sheridan and Johnson County’s unemployment rates in January were at 4.3%, which is up from 3.3% in the previous month for both.

Last year in January, Sheridan County had a rate of 4.1% and Johnson County was at 3.8%.

The Department says unemployment rates followed their normal seasonal pattern and rose in every county in January.

Unemployment rates usually increase during that month, as the end of the holiday shopping season and winter weather bring seasonal job losses in construction, retail trade, and many other sectors.

The lowest unemployment rate in Wyoming for January was in Teton County at 3.0%, while the highest rate was in Big Horn and Niobrara Counties at 5.9%.

Non-farm employment in the Cowboy State increased by 200 jobs from January 2025 to January 2026.
