Morning Sports: February 9, 2026
Sheridan HS Basketball: March Madness is one month away and the post season picture is starting to come into focus.
The Sheridan boys basketball team cruised to wins this past weekend at home vs. Cheyenne East and Cheyenne Central, while the girls dropped both contests.
Both the Broncs and Lady Broncs are on the road this weekend as they visit both Cheyenne South and Laramie.
Big Horn/Tongue River/Arvada-Clearmont HS Basketball: Big Horn swept home games on Saturday vs. Greybull.
The Rams and Lady Rams next play on Friday at Sundance and on Saturday at Moorcroft.
The Tongue River boys lost games over the weekend at home vs. Rocky Mountain and at Sundance.
The girls won vs. RM and lost on the road.
The Eagles and Lady Eagles are at home this coming Friday vs. Wright.
The Arvada-Clearmont boys lost weekend games at Kaycee and at Midwest, while the girls lost the first game and won the second.
A-C is next scheduled to play on Thursday at home vs. Upton and on Friday at Hulett.
Johnson County HS Basketball: The Buffalo boys won games at Wheatland and at home vs. Torrington, while the girls team dropped both games.
The Bison and Lady Bison are next scheduled to play on Friday at Cody and on Saturday at home vs. Burns.
Kaycee won both games on Friday at home vs. Arvada-Clearmont.
The boys team is scheduled to play on Friday at home vs. Ten Sleep, and then both the boys and girls play on Saturday at Hanna.

Sheridan/Johnson County HS Wrestling: The Sheridan boys went 3-2 in various dual meets at Cheyenne, while the girls went 3-3 against teams at Rock Springs.
This week is the last week of the regular season.
The Broncs and Lady Broncs are scheduled to compete on Thursday at Thunder Basin and on Friday at home vs. Campbell County.
The Tongue River boys placed 2nd at the Greybull Invitational.
Kobbe Smith, TJ Watkins and Caleb Vollmer each finished 1st in their respective weight classes.
The TR girls were 6th.
The Eagles and Lady Eagles are scheduled to compete on Thursday in the 2A Northeast Conference Duals at Upton as well as on Friday at the Buffalo Invitational.

Sheridan/Buffalo HS Boys Swimming and Diving: Sheridan placed 3rd at the 4A East Conference Meet held in Gillette.
Senior Ben Forsythe earned automatic All-American status with his time in the 50 yard freestyle race.
Buffalo won 8 events and placed 1st overall at the 3A North Conference Meet held in Newcastle.
The State Meet will take place in Cheyenne.
4A will swim on Thursday and Friday, February 19th and 20th, while 3A swimmers will have their turns on Friday and Saturday February 20th and 21st.
Sheridan/Johnson County HS Indoor Track and Field: The Sheridan boys finished 1st and the girls 3rd at the Basin Nation Invitational held at Gillette.
The next indoor meet is this Saturday at Gillette once again.
Sheridan Hawk Boys Amateur Hockey: The Sheridan Hawk boys won both games this past weekend vs. Fremont County.
The games were moved to Cody, because they were having problems making ice at the rink in Riverton.
The Hawks have secured the #1 seed for the upcoming State ‘B’ Tournament, which is scheduled to be played in Sheridan on February 27th, 28th and March 1st.
Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks won home games vs. both Gillette and Cody this past weekend, and have clinched a spot in the NA3HL Frontier Division playoffs.
In Saturday’s game, Dantae Hunziker scored a hat trick.
Sheridan has unfinished business this Friday, as the team returns to Helena for another first place battle.
The Hawks also play on Saturday at Bozeman.
University of Wyoming Men’s and Women’s Basketball: Despite being shorthanded due to injuries, the Wyoming Cowboys threw everything they had at home vs. Utah State on Saturday, but came up on the short end of an 85-83 final score.
The Pokes trailed by 11 with 3 minutes to go, and cut the deficit to 1, but could not finish.
The difference was that Utah State shot 64% from the field.
UW was able to hang in there, thanks to 10 offensive rebounds.
Damarion Dennis led the Brown and Gold with 20 points, and Nasir Meyer was right behind him with 19.
Leland Walker contributed with 15 and Khaden Bennett put in 11.
Wyoming is now 13-11 on the season and have a 4-9 record in the Mountain West Conference.
The team has the mid-week off from competition.
Round 2 of the Border War is this coming Saturday at Colorado State.
The Wyoming Cowgirls lost Round 1 of their Border War at CSU this past weekend, 83-54.
The opposition shot nearly 51% for the game and drained 13 shots from behind the arc.
Jane Rumpf led UW with 16 points, and Malene Pedersen added 11.
The Cowgirls are now 8-15 on the season and have a 5-9 record in the conference.
Wyoming is next scheduled to play this coming Wednesday at UNLV.
Mountain West Conference Football/North Dakota State: The Mountain West Conference is about to add a new member that has a good history.
Although the conference itself has not made an official announcement, multiple media sources are reporting that North Dakota State is set to join the conference as a football only member beginning this upcoming season.
The Bison have played in the Football Championship Sub-Division since 2004, and won 10 national championships between 2011 and 2024.
This past season, NDSU was undefeated before falling at home vs. Illinois State in the 2nd round of the playoffs.
The addition of North Dakota State would mean the Mountain West Conference would have 10 teams for football in 2026, but all teams would play an 8-game conference schedule.
The other football teams joining the conference next season are the University of Texas-El Paso and Northern Illinois.
As for Colorado State, Utah State, Fresno State, Boise State and San Diego State, those teams are leaving to join the PAC-12.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets won on Saturday at home vs. Chicago 136-120.
The Nuggets are next scheduled to play today at home vs. Cleveland.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
Super Bowl LX: The Seattle Seahawks are Super Bowl Champions, by defeating New England 29-13.
Defense and field goal kicking dominated the first 3 quarters for Seattle, and then both teams were able to find the end zone in the 4th.
The Seahawks defense came through with 6 sacks, and 2 interceptions…one them a pick-6.
Next season, Seattle is scheduled to visit Denver to play the Broncos.
The date of that game will be announced sometime either in late April or early to middle May.
