Sheridan County High School Basketball: The first weekend of high school basketball season has been played out and it was a mixed bag of results for the Sheridan County teams.
The Sheridan boys split a 4-game weekend.
First they lost to Riverton, then defeated Jackson and Rawlins but then closed the weekend with a loss against Star Valley.
The Sheridan girls played the same 4 teams and won against all 4 of them.
Next on the schedule will be this Friday against Buffalo.
The boys will play on the road, while the girls are at home.
Then on Saturday, both the Broncs and Lady Broncs will visit Cody.
The Big Horn boys basketball team went 2-1 on the weekend.
The Rams beat Mitchell, Nebraska, lost against Wheatland and won against Newcastle.
The Lady Rams lost all 3.
The Tongue River boys went 2-1, beating Southeast, lost against Douglas, then beat Moorcroft.
The TR girls lost vs. Southeast and Douglas, but beat Moorcroft.
Both Big Horn and Tongue River will host the Foothill Classic this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
It starts Thursday night, as Big Horn will host the Sheridan JV team, while Tongue River is home vs. Wyoming Indian.
The girls tip-off at 6pm at both places, with the boys game to follow.
Meanwhile the Arvada-Clearmont boys team went 0-3 on the weekend, losing to Ten Sleep, Meeteetse and Riverside.
Next up for the Panthers and Lady Panthers is this Friday at Ten Sleep, although there’s some debate as to if Ten Sleep has a girls team or not, so it’s possible that Friday maybe a boys only game.

Sheridan HS Wrestling: The Sheridan boys finished 20th out of 49 teams at the tournament at Rapid City, South Dakota.
Dane Steel finished 1st in the 175 pound weight bracket, while Kelten Crow was 5th at 165 pounds.
For the Sheridan girls, they finished 7th out of 44 teams.
Becca Oetken was 1st in the 220 pound weight class.
Eva Anderson was 2nd at 165 pounds and Paityn Covolo was 5th at 145 pounds.
Sheridan will next compete at Gillette this Friday and Saturday.
Sheridan HS Boys Swimming: Sheridan finished in 2nd place on Friday at the Gillette Relays.
The Broncs had 1 1st place finish and 4 second place finishes in various events.
Saturday was the Penthathlon and no team scores were kept, but Ben Forsythe finished 1st individually.
Swimmers competed in 5 different races and Forsythe had the best combined time.
Along the way he finished 1st in the 100 yard breaststroke and the 50 yard freestyle races and was 2nd in the 100 yard butterfly.
Sheridan’s next scheduled swim meet is tomorrow at Buffalo.
Sheridan HS Nordic Skiing: There was not enough snow on the ground in Laramie this past weekend, so the meet was moved to Lander.
College Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys were down 10 at one point in the 2nd half on Saturday at home vs. Stephen F. Austin, then went on a 30-12 run to take control and win 78-70.
Sam Griffin led the way with 23 points.
Akuel Kot put in 19 and Cam Manyawu had 12.
The big difference in the game was the Pokes found ways to get to the free throw line.
Twenty-five of their points came from the charity stripe.
UW is now 6-3 on the season, and their next scheduled game is this coming Saturday at home vs. Weber State.
Tip off is scheduled for 7pm.
The Wyoming Cowgirls dropped a 73-to-61 game at home vs. Creighton yesterday.
Allyson Fertig did almost half of the scoring as she put in 30 and grabbed 12 rebounds, but the big difference was the UW could not get the 3’s to drop, as they were 4 of 22 from behind the arc.
The Cowgirls are now 4-4 on the season.
Their next scheduled game is this Sunday at Montana State.
Denver Broncos Football: The Denver Broncos picked up a big road win against the LA Chargers yesterday 24-7.
Quarterback Russell Wilson was 21 of 33 passing for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Broncos are now 7-6 and are only 1 game behind Kansas City for 1st place in the AFC West with 4 games to go.
As far as the playoffs go, it is crowded.
The Broncos are in a 6-way tie for the final 2 wild card spots in the AFC.
As it stands right now, Cleveland has the first wild card spot, and then in no order, it’s the Broncos, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Houston, Cincinnati and Buffalo all tied.
Denver’s next game is this coming Saturday at Detroit.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:15pm.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets lost their first home game of the season Friday against Houston, 114-108.
They are back on the court tonight at Atlanta.
Tip off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche lost at home Saturday vs. Philadelphia 5-2.
They are home again tonight vs. Calgary beginning at 7:30pm.
Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks lost both games this past weekend at home vs. Bozeman, 4-1 and 6-2.
Saturday’s game got off to a promising start when they scored twice in 37 seconds to go ahead 2-1, but it was all Icedogs after that.
Next up is the NA3HL’s Showcase event in Blaine, Minnesota, which is just north of Minneapolis.
The Hawks will play Sunday against a team from Euless, Texas.
Next week Monday, they play the St. Louis Junior Blues and then conclude the event next week Tuesday vs. a team out of Danbury, Connecticut.
