Managers with the Bighorn National Forest want to remind people of some important rules and tips for safe winter recreation in the forest. Bighorn National Forest Public Affairs Officer Sara Evans Kirol talks about some of the regulations regarding off-road over-snow travel.

Kirol said that almost 70 percent of the 1.1 million acre national forest is open to over-snow vehicles, and that people are encouraged to contact the Forest Service to find out what areas are open to over-snow vehicles. The Cloud Peak Wilderness, downhill and Nordic ski areas, the Medicine Wheel snowmobile restriction area, and the wildlife area closures are not open to motorized over-snow vehicles. She said that maps showing over-snow vehicle trails are available at Forest Service offices in Sheridan, Buffalo and Greybull.
