Labor Shortages Affecting Sheridan County
Labor shortages are continuing to impact the U.S. economy and the issue of more available jobs than workers is a reality in Sheridan County as well. Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce CEO Dixie Johnson addressed the issue at the most recent Sheridan City Council meeting.
Johnson talked about some of the things they are doing to try and mitigate the shortage of employees locally.
Johnson said you can’t point to one reason as to why the shortage is happening as there are many different things that are feeding into it. She said it isn’t just the hospitality industry that’s being affected either.
Johnson said what Sheridan County is experiencing with worker shortages is definitely a crisis and they will continue to work with the business community on solutions to lessen the impact that it’s having locally.

…it’s a good thing when people have choices in employment…businesses have choices too…like raising wages to retain workers and attract new potential employees…wages or benefits have not kept pace with the cost of living…nobody should be shackled to their employment in an unhappy situation because there is no other option to find a different job…it may be a problem for employers but can be mitigated with higher wages and more benefits based upon experience or other qualifications of job applicants

No mention as to WHY there is a labor shortage.
“infill or backfill some of those positions with foreign workers….”
Is ms. johnson advocating the hiring of people who are in this country illegally?

Affordable housing is a huge issue in Sheridan. Until the entire community recognizes that and stops kowtowing to the idle rich who can afford half-million-dollar-plus homes, good luck getting your car fixed, your hair done, or your groceries stocked. It will only get worse. Look at Jackson and parts of Colorado.

It is like the best people left businesses. I notice a big drop in customer service at fast food restaurants and retail stores. A lot of workers do not even have the basic skills to say “Hi, can i help you?”
