Main Street Reconfiguration to Begin This Weekend
Work will begin in downtown Sheridan this weekend on the reconfiguration of Main Street into one lane moving in each direction, north and south, with a central turn lane. In anticipation of the Wyoming Department of Transportation’s resurfacing project of Main Street in downtown Sheridan that is scheduled for 2023, the City of Sheridan orchestrated a three-lane reconfiguration test of Main Street in downtown last summer and early fall. Of nearly 1,000 online responses to a survey on the three-lane configuration, 65 percent of the responses were positive. In the fall, the City converted the portion of Main back to its original form prior to the test.
City Engineer Hanns Mercer informed the City Council Monday night that work on the new configuration would begin this upcoming Saturday night.
Mercer said that a fabricator will be in Sheridan this weekend as well.
Mercer said that once they are made, the fabricator will be installing the mast arms approximately three weeks from this upcoming weekend. Main Street in downtown will be closed beginning at 10 pm Saturday night and will reopen to vehicular traffic Sunday afternoon around 4 pm.

That reconfiguration will be a reason I will not use main street and thus will not be doing business with any one of the businesses there.

Thanks Janice for not causing traffic problems. The three lane system MOVES traffic & keeps drivers from jockeying for position as if driving on Main Street was some kind of race.

I thought the reconfiguration was a wonderful addition! Parking was much easier and much easier to drive downtown without worrying about pedestrians, bikers, car doors, and everything else. Traffic was much more safe and orderly. Allowed me use the street I would have otherwise ignored.

When they did the reconfiguration test I was initially against it. After driving through it several times I changed my mind. I am glad we are willing to make these changes to address the traffic and parking problems on Main street. I am sure the tourists that we depend on for the life blood of our community will find that it makes downtown more accessible.

Unfortunately, you are right, Janice. It SLOWS the traffic flow. People like Dave have nothing better to do than try to be in control of other people who are doing nothing dangerous NOR illegal.
