YMCA offers training for the Dead Swede

Published

It’s a grueling challenge, riding primarily on gravel roads requiring focus and dedication. It’s the Dead Swede.

Developed by founders Jordan LeDuc, owner of the Sheridan Bicycle Company and John Kirlin, the Dead Swede is a bike race that offers 100, 60, 40 and 20 mile courses (mostly gravel roads) for those strong and daring enough to challenge themselves on the hills of the Sheridan area.

Attracting riders from all over the nation, the race has grown in popularity. It offers views of the Sheridan area that few ever find the opportunity to enjoy.

Many participants of the Dead Swede take their riding seriously; training all year to travel and ride in races all over the US. Recently, the Sheridan County YMCA began a class that intends to give you the training you need to compete in the premier gravel race of the West.

The course offers the opportunity to train with others who share the same goal to compete in the Dead Swede. This increases the odds of following through, remaining motivated and learning tricks and techniques to remain in the race and hit the finish line.
