SCSD#1 Board of Trustees Met Tuesday

The SCSD#1 Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, September 16. Chairman Clint Krumm read the new mission statement for the school, “Empowering Learners, Enriching Lives.”

The meeting was held in Big Horn, and the board heard a presentation from Ryan Fuhrman, new Principal of Big Horn High School.

He created a crest for Big Horn, and added that the crest has a Latin motto, which translated mean Bravery, Honor, Heart and Scholarship (BHHS). He said that now as he steps into the new role, he will try to focus on those values and recognize them in his students as well.

He said he also wanted a motto, he came up with, “We kind of dominate everything we do.”

After Fuhrman’s presentation, the new student representatives, Erika Stutzman from Tongue River High School and Walker Mitchell from Big Horn High School, reported on what is happening in their respective schools.

Mitchell talked about homecoming at BHHS, and he added,

Stutzman said the TRHS is working on homecoming as well, and that the student council is getting ready for the upcoming year.

In his written report to the board, Superintendent Jeff Jones said he is looking forward to the first rounds of “Check and Connect” sessions, which will be held in the cafeteria at Tongue River Elementary School on Monday Sept 22 at 6 p.m., and on September 23 at 6 p.m. at Big Horn High School. The goal of these is to reinforce the strong school-family partnerships thorough sharing information and keeping the lines of communication open.

At the meeting, Jones added he was doing work to bring more awareness to the brand new strategic plan.

One way he plans to do this is to offer incentive pay to those teachers who are asked to substitute teach in a class during one of their planning periods, to thank them for giving up planning time to teach.

In other business, the board voted to elect trustees Morgan Stalick and Brian Davidson as voting delegates to the WSBA (Wyoming School Board Assocation). They also approved several policies, the 2025-2026 bus routes, and two early graduation requests.

Next meeting will be Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Central Office in Ranchester.
