Hunger Action Month

Hunger Action Month is a national campaign created by Feeding America that is held every September to raise awareness and inspire action to end hunger in America. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has more.

According to Feeding America, the largest hunger relief and food rescue organization in the U.S., 1 in 7 individuals and 1 in 5 children in Wyoming experience food insecurity. Food Bank of Wyoming Development Manager of Corporate Engagement Jenna Noelle says that hunger is a vital concern in Wyoming as food insecurity rates are at a more than 10 year high.

Noelle said the Food Bank of Wyoming distributed more than 12 million pounds of food last year to state residents experiencing food insecurity. She added that nearly 5,000 individuals in Sheridan County, more than 15.5 percent of the population, are estimated to experience food insecurity.
