SCSO Warns of Warrant for Arrest Scam

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan County Undersheriff Lieutenant Doug Sanders warned the community about a scam concerning fake warrants. 

Internet and texting scams have unfortunately become a part of life. The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office works diligently to learn of, investigate and warn the public about these scams that have cost the American people $20.9 billion in 2025 alone, according to the FBI’s most recent Internet Crime Report.

Sanders said through the use of artificial intelligence programs, scammers can fake the appearance of warrants for arrest. The warrants are easily identified as fake to the trained eye of law enforcement personnel due to jurisdictional mistakes. But to the average resident, they appear real and very concerning.

The Wyoming Judicial Branch is also alerting the public that scammers are contacting court users, posing as court officials, and asking for money to pay their bond through payment apps. 

According to the WJB, no court in the State of Wyoming will contact any member of the public requesting money. If you or someone you know has received a payment request, contact your local court immediately and ask about any outstanding payments.
