Sheridan HS Volleyball: The season for the Sheridan High School Volleyball team got off to a good start, thanks to a 3rd place finish at the Gillette Invitational earlier this month.
Now that quadrant play has started, the competition has stepped up and the Lady Broncs are learning how to adjust.
The team dropped 2 games last week against both teams from Gillette and currently have a record of 9-5 on the season.
Head Coach Ana Gale says the trick for the team sometimes is maintaining momentum.
When they have it, they do good, but when it goes in the other direction, it can be a challenge to turn things around.
Sheridan is next scheduled to play tomorrow at undefeated Kelly Walsh, who are the 2-time defending 4A State Champs.
The Lady Broncs will stay in the Oil City on Friday and Saturday, to play in the Casper Invitational.
Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: After a 2-2 performance on the road to start the season, the Sheridan Hawks will begin the home portion of their schedule, with a former player calling the shots, at least temporarily.
Blake Billings, who played for the team in the 2019-2020, as well as the 2021-22 and 22-23 seasons, has been named the interim Head Coach.
He was also an assistant coach for Sheridan in the 2023-24 season.
Billings says he’s going to try to teach strategies that worked when he was with the team, and hope that it’s not too different from what the players have already been doing.
The Hawks host the Bozeman IceDogs this coming Friday and Saturday at the Whitney Rink inside the M&M Center.
The puck drops for both games at 7:30pm.
Sheridan College Rodeo: The Sheridan College Men’s team, thanks to 1 1st place finish, 2 2nd’s and 1 3rd, placed third at the Central WY College Rodeo event in Riverton this past weekend.
Bridger Peil won the tie-down roping event with a time of 25.5 seconds on 2 runs.
He is currently 3rd in the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings, and his teammate, Tyon Arneson is in 2nd.
Chaz Dewey was 2nd in the bareback riding, with a 2 ride total of 134.5 points.
That finish pushed him up to 3rd in the region standings, which is where he needs to be at the end of next April, to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo.
Four Sheridan College cowboys finished in the top 7 of the saddle bronc riding.
Leading the team was Christopher Nelson who was 2nd with a 2-ride total of 147 points.
After 2 weekends of competition, he is in 1st place in the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings.
Nelson was followed by Bleu Wanner at 3rd with 145.
Jake Schlattmann and Koy McAllister were 6th and 7th, with scores of 139 and 134 respectively.
On the ladies side, Tatum Reid was 3rd in goat tying, with a 2 round time of 14.9 seconds.
Sheridan College will host the Pat Hamilton Memorial Rodeo at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds this coming Friday thru Sunday.
The event was voted the Central Rocky Mountain Region Rodeo of the Year for the 2025-26 season.
Competition will kick off with slack performances at noon on Friday, followed by the main performance at 6pm.
On Saturday slack begins at 9am, followed by the main performance at 2pm.
The rodeo will wrap up with the short round at 10am on Sunday.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost last night at home vs. Arizona 7-2.
Mickey Moniak hit a solo home run for the cause, but a lot more was needed.
That is loss #100 on the season for the Rocks, making it the 4th straight year that the team will finish a season with 100 losses or more.
Colorado and the Diamondbacks are scheduled to play each other again today, starting at 6:40pm.
