Sheridan Second Chance Cat Rescue raise funds for programs

Published

The Sheridan Second Chance Cat Rescue has entered its eleventh year housing and finding homes for cats.

The rescue’s primary specialty is senior and special needs cats according to Animal Medical Director Rachel Kristiansen.

Second Chance Cat Rescue operates three primary programs to accomplish the mission, a rescue and adoption program, a spay and neuter program and a sanctuary program.

The Rescue and Adoption Program finds suitable homes for the senior and special needs cats as well as cats that have been surrendered to the rescue. Cats that have been injured or are stricken ill are rehabilitated and given another chance.

Depending upon the situation the Spay and Neuter Program provides free or discounted spay and neuter services for cats as well as dogs owned by anyone in Sheridan County. Low-income residents who cannot afford these services on their own can apply for the reduced or even free service.

The Sanctuary Program provides free cat boarding to people who need temporary housing for their pets. According to Kristiansen, typical clients include veterans who enter the local VA Hospital, individuals checking into substance abuse treatment at local centers, and even individuals undergoing cancer treatments. The Second Chance Cat Rescue will provide a safe place for feline friends while owners are away.

During an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Kristiansen elaborated on why the rescue operates the Sanctuary Program.
