The National Weather Service in partnership with Sheridan County Emergency Management will be offering a free weather spotter training in Sheridan in May. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

In 2023, there were 27 reported tornadoes in Wyoming and 124 reported tornadoes over the past decade in the Cowboy State. Additionally, Wyoming holds the dubious distinction of ranking first for the number of lightning deaths and injuries per capita in the U.S. With these statistics in mind, it’s crucial for individuals to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to identify and respond to severe weather effectively.

The upcoming weather spotter training session will be held Wednesday, May 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Sheridan Area Search and Rescue located at 916 West Brundage Lane in Sheridan. The training session will cover thunderstorm basics, the identification of severe weather phenomena, and proper protocols for responding to and reporting severe weather incidents. Registration for the training session is free and open to all interested individuals. You can secure your spot by registering online here.
