A change of plea hearing was held Tuesday in Fourth Judicial District Court for 48-year-old Levi Wilcox. Pursuant to terms of a plea agreement reached with the State, Wilcox pleaded guilty to felony possession of a controlled substance –  methamphetamine, and felony possession of a controlled substance – marijuana. The charges were prosecuted as felonies because Wilcox was convicted twice in 2014 for drug possession and the current charges result in three or more drug possession convictions, which is a felony in Wyoming.

According to court documents, Wilcox was arrested for the crimes on November 15, 2023 after an anonymous reporting party called dispatch to report a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a motel on north Main Street in Sheridan. An officer with the Sheridan Police Department responded to the report, and shortly after arriving on scene, a search of Wilcox’s vehicle was conducted and the drugs were found inside the vehicle and Wilcox was placed under arrest.

The plea agreement recommends a sentence of 2 ½ to 5 years in prison for each charge, suspended in lieu of three years of supervised probation. The sentences and probationary terms will run concurrent to one another. The plea agreement is non binding, meaning the Court, at sentencing, can reject the plea deal and the defendant cannot reject their guilty plea.  District Court Judge Darci Phillips ordered that a presentence investigation be completed by Probation and Parole and scheduled sentencing for June 6 at 9:30 am.
